Bobby Riggs was an American tennis champion. He was born Robert Larimore Riggs on February 25, 1918 in Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles, California, United States and he was also raised there. He was born to his parents named Gideon Wright Riggs (Father) and Agnes Jones (Mother). He grew up with five siblings.

Bobby Riggs began playing tennis at the age of 12. By the time he was 18 years old, he had already won the Southern California Men’s Title and he then went on to play on the grass-court circuit. He also won the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship in Chicago. In 1938, he became part of the American Davis Cup team and in 1939, he made it to the finals of Wimbledon Championships. In 1946, 1947 and 1949, he won the US Pro titles. Riggs is also known for being a hustler and gambler. According to his autobiography, he made $105,000 in 1939 by betting and most of his bets were on himself.

In 1973, he came out of retirement to challenge Magaret Court, who was one of the most successful female tennis stars then. He won Margaret Court and this victory made him more money and also landed him on the cover of Sports Illustrated and Time Magazine. In 2017, a film called Battle of the Sexes was released and Riggs was played by Steve Carell and it also starred famous actors like Emma Stone. Due to the successes he recorded as a tennis star, in 1967, he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Riggs Drive in Sandy, Utah was named for Riggs.
