Dennis Prager began his writing career as a College student, he was hired by a Jewish group to travel to the Soviet Union to interview Jews about their life there. He later became the national spokesman for the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry. In 1975, he joined hands with Telushkin and published an Introduction to Judaism intended for nonobservant Jews: The Nine Questions People Ask About Judaism and the book eventually became a best-seller. In the 1976 US presidential election, he supported Jimmy Carter.
From 1976 until 1983, he ran the Barndeis-Bardin Institute. In 1982, he was hired by KABC (AM) in Los Angeles, to host a talk show on religion every Sunday Night and the show expanded into a daily talk show. In 1992, he became involved with the Stephen S. Wise Temple and gave talks there. In 2003, he considered contesting for the US Senate but he later gave up the idea.
In 2009, he joined other Salem Radio Networks to oppose the Affordable Care Act. In the 2016 Presidential Elections, he supported Donald Trump against Hillary Clinton. In 2018, he published a commentary on the Book of Exodus and in 2019, he published another commentary called Book of Genesis. In 2009, he started a website called PragerU, which is where he uploads his conservative views on different issues.
