Who is Emily Robinson?
Emily Robinson is an American singer, songwriter, actress and instrumentalist and founding member of the female country band The Dixie Chicks and she plays instruments such as band, banjo, guitar, sitar and she is also known for her role as the lead vocalist for the band Court Yard Hounds.
Biography and Education
Emily Robinson was born Emily Burns Erwin on the 16th of August, 1972 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, United States and she was born to her father named Paul Erwin and her mother named Barbara Trask, Emily was raised in Addison, Texas and her parents were both educators and her parents enrolled her and her sister named Martha nicknamed Martie at an Instrumental class after discovering that they shared an interest in playing musical instruments, Emily started playing Violin at the age of seven and the banjo at the age of ten.
At a very young age, Emily and her sister Martha and some of their friends formed a music group called The Blue Night Express and they began to perform at different events and festivals, according to Emily, she and her sister Martha were obsessed with busking at small venues and attending bluegrass festivals mainly to perform and to be able to meet their musical idols, Emily and her sister attended the Greenhill School.

Emily Robinson has appeared in movies such as Dixie Chicks: Not Ready to Make Nice in 2006, Dixie Chicks: Goodbye Earl in 2000, King of the Hill in 1999, Dixie Chicks: Wide Open Space in 1998, Emily has also appeared in television series and shows such as CMT Insider in 2009, The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2007, Biography in 2006 and 101 Most Shocking Moments in Entertainment in 2003.
In 1989, after attending bluegrass festival and busking, Emily and her sister Martie in collaboration with guitarist Robin Lynn Macy and Upright bass player Laura Lynch formed a band but before they formed it, Robin was hesitant as she didn’t want to waste her time forming a band that will not be profitable and according to her she told other members that if the band wasn’t making money in six months that she will quit and focus on working hard to get accepted by the United States Air Force Academy, but by 1993 the band had already become a success.
Macy left the band and this prompted Lynch to become the sole lead singer but was replaced by Emily and Martie and in 1995 singer and composer Natalie Maine joined the band, Lynch later left the band after it gathered only local interest, in 1998 and 1999, the Dixie Chicks band recorded a lot of success especially with the release of their albums Wide Open Spaces and Fly and the two albums both achieved Diamond record status and in celebration of this Emily Robinson dyed her hair blond.
In 2003, the Dixie Chicks band came under controversy after Maines made a remark about United States President George W. Bush and the remarks was perceived as irrational and negative towards the Iraqi war, after Emily and her Dixie Chicks band mates celebrated their fifth Grammy Award for Taking the long way, they took a break from music but during this period, Emily’s marriage to former husband Charlie Robinson collapsed and she became depressed and this affected her relationship with her band mates.
In 2010, Emily and her sister Martie formed the band called Court Yard Hounds with Emily Strayer as the lead vocalist and the band debuted Live in March, 2010 at South by Southwest and in May, 2010, they released their debut album and all the songs except for one was written by Emily Strayer.
