Lute Olson is an American retired Hall of Fame basketball coach. He was born Robert Luther Olson on September 22, 1934 in Mayville, North Dakota, United States and he was raised there. He was born to his parents named Albert Olson (Father) and Alinda Olson (Mother).

In 1969, he became the Head coach of Long Beach City College and he coached them until 1973. From 1973 until 1974, he coached Long Beach State University. Due to the fact that he had a good profile as a basketball coach, he was hired by University of Iowa and he coached the University of Iowa basketball team from 1974 until 1983. In 1983, he signed with University of Arizona.

While at the University of Iowa, he was voted Pac-10 Coach of the year seven times and he made five final four appearances and he led his team to win the 1997 NCAA Championship. Due to the success he recorded as a basketball coach, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002. In 1986, he coached the United States team in the FIBA World Championships. In the course of his career as a basketball coach, Olson was able to develop basketball stars like Michael Dickerson, Luke Walton, Ray Owes, Miles Simon, Chris Mills, Andre Iguodala and many more.
