Larry Bird began his basketball career while attending Springs Valley High School. In 1974, he received a scholarship to play College basketball for the Indiana University Hoosiers. After a month at Indiana University, he dropped out and enrolled at Northwood University and in 1975, he enrolled at Indiana State University in Terre Haute. He played for the Sycamores basketball team and they reached the NCAA tournament. In the 1978 NBA draft, he was selected by Boston Celtics. Bird played for the Bolton Celtics from 1979 until 1992. The 1987-1988 season was his best scoring season. In the summer of 1992, he joined Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and many other NBA stars to play for the United States basketball team in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. In 1996, he was voted to the NBA’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team. At the 2019 NBA Awards, he received NBA Lifetime Achievement Award. From 1992 until 1997, he served as Boston Celtics coach and in 1997, he began to serve as Indiana Pacers coach. In 2003, he was hired as the Pacers’ president of Basketball operations. He has starred in three films titled Blue Chips in 1994, Space Jam in 1996 and Celtic Pride in 1996.
